Devil's punchbowl part 2

That day stuck with me, so if you bear with me I would like a couple of days to stay with it.

Yesterday we looked at how it’s so easy giving into temptation or going our own way in a situation.   Like a dog, we just see something over there, and feel we have to explore it.  It’s not till either the excitement wears off,  or we look at God that we actually see how dangerous the hole was.  We end up hurting ourselves more, trying to ‘do it on our own,’ getting back through the hole to God when it’s impossible.

Today I’d like to look more at the rescue.  When I got Hamish back safely in my arms I was so relieved and happy.  He was so thankful as well.  I held him close as long as he would let me!

In Isaiah 40:11 God paints a beautiful word picture.
“He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart.”
That is how God wants our relationship with him to be like!  I think any of us can have a small inkling of what God feels for us when we come back to Him, or even discover Him for the first time.  I say an inkling as God’s love is way bigger than we can ever imagine.

Maybe for you it wasn’t a dog but a child.  Think of that feeling of overflowing love and gratitude when you could hold them close to you.  In that moment, I never wanted Hamish to do that again.  I know that he probably will, however much I try and guard against it.  God wants to keep you so close to Him, that you can hear His beating of His heart!

God doesn’t want to have a fence between us, it’s always us that puts it there.  The next time you carry your dog, baby or child next to your heart, remember God wants that with us.  What are we doing to guard against another fence?  Come to God every day, asking what He wants us to do in EVERY situation, praying to Him throughout the day – just talking to Him, reading the bible.  And if we ask God if there is a fence,  God will show us and what caused the fence.
