The tree really was bending over near our roof.
Our trees are so near our roof. While everything was crashing around me I was hoping and praying no big tree would come crashing through the roof.
I was looking outside through the glass window and saw the big pelts of snow crashing down and I stayed indoors as it would have been stupid to put myself in harm’s way by leaving the relative security of my home. Hamish‘s reflexes are way faster than mine but even he knew to stay indoors during the worst of it.
Are you going through a storm in your life?
Does everything seem like it’s crashing around you? Are you scared? There are many types of storms we go through, it’s not easy at the time but when we turn to God we realise we are ultimately protected and safe.
“The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.
He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. “ Psalm 18:2
If you are a Christian are you turning to God, just looking at Him and not concentrating on the storm around you? Sometimes we act like we don’t have protection, standing outside alone in a storm.
Do you need to turn around and see you are in the rock – that God will protect you? Or are you staring out seeing and hearing the 'snow pelts' thrown at you and forget you are seeing it through a 'glass window' as you are safe inside in God's protection?
If you turn to God and put your trust in him, you realise that the storm is going on behind you. It’s not as scary anymore. You can see how God is protecting you, whereas when you had your eyes on the storm you weren’t looking to God, trusting in Him. If you have your eyes on the storm, the disciples did the same thing -
“Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” Matthew 8: 24-27
Jesus was right beside them but they thought the storm was more powerful than Jesus.
Jesus was right beside them but they weren’t looking to him they were concentrating on the storm.
Jesus is right beside you, do you need to turn around and see Him?
Jesus is right beside you, wanting to help you through it, will you let Him?
Jesus is right beside you, do you have faith that he is?
Jesus is right beside you.
