Acts 13:36a ..”David had served God's purpose in his own generation..”
There’s a song “I want to serve the purpose of God in my generation.” At the end of his life that is what was said of David.
I watched Colton Dixon on American Idol last night, singing the worship song “everything.” He is unashamedly open about being a Christian. He doesn’t come across as ‘in your face’ about it, but simply tells his story. The theme for the evening was 'your idol' how they inspire you and sing something from them that they wrote. How wonderful and refreshing that he chose Jesus and turned the theme around!
When watching him I thought about that verse, how he is relevant and is reaching out to his own generation. Last night he moved the judges as they could tell he was really feeling it and it was being sung from the heart.
When we are real, walking closely with God, God shines through so everyone can see Him. Colton is just living out his faith, and was telling his story which no one can take away from him.
Are we reaching out to our generation, showing God and serving out His purpose? Colton is, he is reaching his generation, my generation is different again.
I was encouraged in my faith and thrilled to see it, showing me in a new way of what living for God looks like.
This is a further story in the Christian post. I did not know the producers tried to ‘tone down his faith tweets’ I guess it explains why music seems to come quickly at the end of his song when he is talking about God.
Below is "everything" by lifehouse, the link is an explanation of the wordless skit you will see being performed, which is by mission Baltimore and what or who each person represents.
Please scroll down the article and read it, as it really helps.
It’s powerful, so relevant to teenagers and problems they can go through. As you can see by the description in the link, I wouldn’t recommend that young children should watch this. Watch it all the way through, the ending is wonderful.
Below is ‘everything’ sung and uploaded by Colton Dixon (this isn’t him on American idol)
words for “Everything” by lifehouse
Find me here, and speak to me
I want to feel you, I need to hear you
You are the light that's leading me to the place
Where I find peace again
You are the strength that keeps me walking
You are the hope that keeps me trusting
You are the life to my soul
You are my purpose
You're everything
And how can I stand here with you
And not be moved by you
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this?
You calm the storms and you give me rest
You hold me in your hands
You won't let me fall
You steal my heart and you take my breath away
Would you take me in, take me deeper now
And how can I stand here with you and not be moved by you
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this
And how can I stand here with you and not be moved by you
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this
Cause you're all I want, you're all I need
You're everything, everything
You're all I want
You're all I need
You're everything, everything
You're all I want
You're all I need
You're everything, everything
You're all I want
You're all I need
Everything, everything
And how can I stand here with you and not be moved by you
Would you tell me how could it be any better than this (repeat)
