I have discovered that I would prefer to be without a washing machine, dryer, TV, cooker, phone and every other appliance or modern luxury combined if I can have my laptop and can be on the internet.
When I think of all the inventions that have been made I am in awe, I still don’t ‘get’ how TV works and to have things wireless really amazes me.
Most of us will flock to the person who has the very latest gadget, wanting to see what the newest thing in invention and technology is like. People are in awe of the so called greatest inventors and thinkers.
We love new technology are in wonder of it and yet how often it doesn’t work! How often we are frustrated when our new phone, computer doesn’t work and yet these are the pinnacle of man's achievement.
Our assistant pastor was talking about how God in the 4th day of creation made nuclear fusion when He made the sun. And how we have taken thousands of years to make the light bulb out of parts that were available to us and we knew what light was. God came up with the concept of light from his own thoughts and created it from nothing – He spoke it into existence.
If we could combine the greatest brains of all time into one person, it would be like a speck of dust in the whole universe compared to God’s knowledge.
I am amazed at how Hamish doesn’t ‘get’ something, how small his brain is. He is put in his pen if he goes after something he shouldn’t. He whines so I let him out hoping he now understands but he will still go after that ornament or object and I am sorry for him that he still doesn’t understand what he is doing is the reason why he was restricted in the first place.
If we multiply the difference between our brain and our dog's by thousands of times, then we might begin to understand the difference between our brain and God.
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:9.
If we could combine all the best inventions from the past and all that ever will be invented, it could never come even vaguely close to God’s creation. He created man, his ability to think, imagine, so how can the created creations come close to the Creator of all things?
If you are a lover of the latest thing, have you ever stopped to think about how God will always be way ahead of what anyone can invent?
So often people have the concept of God being really old as He is eternal (even though He is outside of time so He isn’t old or young!) so not ‘with it’ and then not relevant; when it’s the exact opposite.
God will always be the most advanced, post future inventor, not meaning to be disrespectful but in modern terms – no one can out ‘cool’ him.
God will always be ahead of the curve, He knows everything that will be invented or thought of.
God made the greatest thinkers and their brains although most of them deny there is a God!
“Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world's standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, "He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness." And again, "The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless."
1 Corinthians 3:18-20
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10
You can rely on God 100%, unlike inventions that don’t work or break when you need them the most. Scientists come out with new theories all the time. God is unchanging. In modern society being unchanging can be seen as a negative. But God is unchanging as He is perfect – always has been and always will be. He doesn’t need to change His mind as He was never wrong to begin with.
Who or what do you have faith in?
Are you putting your faith in scientists who come up with different theories every few years as to how the earth was made and who say there is no God?
Are you putting your faith in created things but not the creator?
Or are you putting your faith in the ultimate inventor – the Creator of all?
